The reason I fell in love with travelling

Once I returned home from my Bali Island Hopping adventure, I had just five days to catch up on boring everyday stuff before I Jetted off again. This time I departed from the UK on a family trip to the French Island of Corsica, which is confusingly off the coast of Italy…. But we’ll get onto that and how I spent my time on the island in a series of future posts!

For now here’s some teaser photos. 😉

Today, however, I want to share with you something that occurred to me in Corsica whilst I was sat by the pool, relaxing in the sunshine and sipping on a rather delicious cocktail, The reason I fell in love with travelling:

♦♦♦

Before now I’ve answered the question: ‘why do you like to travel?’ with a simple statement: I love the sense of adventure that comes with stepping off a plane, coupled with the fact that travelling has really helped build my confidence.

Although this is true, spending time away with my family in Corsica made me realise that the true reason I fell in love with travelling is the fact that I have thousands of positive memories associated with it:

Throughout my childhood, my family and I jetted off for two weeks away in the sun. Inevitably our destination was always in the middle of no-where since my mum insists that her relaxation time should not be disturbed by noisy neighbours… In fact, its become a family joke in that this year we placed bets on how far out of town the villa would be – sorry mum.

the reason I fell in love with travelling one

Little me enjoying an Ice-cream in Italy 🙂

None the less, this isolation led to many family bonding moments over the years. For example, as young kids my brother and I only had each other to play with. Whereas if we’d stayed in hotels, we probably would have done our own things.

Consequently, we would have missed out on creating games such as the ‘Lilo Trick Diving Competition’ which largely consists of artistically jumping into the pool and landing on a lilo. And yes we did bring back the championships this year at the tender ages of 19 and 22. 😉

the reason I fell in love with travelling two

My brother and I showing off a sandcastle we talentedly created 😉

And sure, these trips growing up were not all rainbows and sunshine! I’ll admit to throwing a tantrum or two as my parents dragged my brother and I around yet another historical site in Europe. Although Ironically I now find such sites interesting.

However, most of these family arguments and bust-ups are now something I look back on and laugh at. In fact, my family and I spent a lot of time in Corsica reminiscing about old holidays. Because of this, I realised that I mainly love to travel because it subconsciously takes me back to this happy place of family bonding and laughter… I knew my psychology A-level would come in useful at some point!

the reason I fell in love with travelling three

For this reason, despite enjoying solo ventures around the globe, I hope to carry on taking trips with my family. After all, this post establishes that they are the reason I now spend my time wanderlusting over new destinations… Plus I can sponge free trips from my parents which is always a bonus. 😉

    My reason i love traveling?
It has been the key for me to make my imaginations alive. With that I mean when reading my books. I create a story in front of me. Whilst I’ve been on that island my visual story becomes more vivid and I just love that.
And also I love to see that every culture has their own good and bad charastics.
