If you read my previous post: 2 Days In Paradise On Gili Trawangan, you’ll understand that I completely fell in love with the Gili Islands during my short stay. Their rustic charm, golden sands and turquoise waters captivated my heart, and helped ease the worries of modern life!
However, there was one thing on the Gili Islands that instead of lifting my spirits, broke my heart: the suffering of Cidomo Horses.

I recently set off on my first solo trip around the globe, and while travelling alone is empowering and invigorating, it sure as hell can get lonely! But fear not, as long as you keep your ears piqued and your mind open, opportunities to meet new and like minded people will often fall right on your doorstep.
Following my 5 tips below, on how to meet people when solo travelling, will leave you with friends scattered around the globe, and whats better than that?
When travelling I love nothing more than lounging by the pool, relaxing on the beach or watching the world go by, with a good book in hand, ready to delve into the pages of another world!
For me, a trips not complete if I don’t take the time to sit back and enjoy the latest book I’ve picked up from WHSmith’s at the airport…
Below I’ve quickly reviewed the books I’ve read abroad this summer and would recommend to you.
I recently flew to and from Bali with Qatar Airlines… I have to confess that I’d never really heard of them (I’ve mainly flown with British Airways or Virgin when travelling long haul) but, after a quick google, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is actually the ‘most on time’ airline and that economy had pretty good reviews! Following these discoveries, I quickly booked my flights and mentally prepared myself for 18 hours in the air….
I can say that overall I was impressed with Qatar Airways and would definitely fly with them again! But lets break the experience down:
Just wanted to make a quick post to apologies for my recent inactivity on ‘Earths Magical Places’! I’ve been busy exploring the islands of Indonesia and as such I’ve had little time to write posts and keep up to date with comments!
However, I’m now back with good WiFi and many stories to share with you all – yay!
Here’s some teaser photos from my travels for you to feast your eyes on in the meantime 😉
Have you ever started packing and realised there’s absolutely no way everything you want to take on your trip will fit into your bag? Yeah me too… I’m a self-proclaimed overpacker, and will admit to times of shame where I’ve resorted to sitting on my case!
You could say I like to travel prepared for any situation and is that really a bad thing? Well yes (god damn weight restrictions). Still, over my recent travel adventures I’ve managed to curb my chronic overpacking using the below tips 🙂
